The Inclusive Climate Action Programme: Justice-Centred Climate Solutions
The ICA Programme is all about ensuring climate policies address structural inequalities. It's about designing solutions that deliver mitigation, adaptation, and resilience outcomes while promoting social justice. Key pillars include direct support to cities, peer learning, global leadership, and thought-provoking research.
Your Role: Leading Inclusive Climate Action in Africa
As the Senior Manager for Inclusive Climate Action in Africa, you'll be the go-to person for equity and inclusion within C40's Resilient Urban Futures Programme. Your role is crucial in ensuring climate adaptation efforts are community-driven and aligned with just transition principles. You'll work closely with city officials, providing strategic leadership and technical expertise to shape city climate action plans.
Key Responsibilities: Technical Expertise and Coordination
- Technical Leadership: Support African cities in implementing climate adaptation actions, ensuring equity and inclusivity are at the core.
- Policy Guidance: Provide expertise on climate risk assessments and adaptation planning, considering socio-economic factors.
- Project Design: Oversee technical assistance projects that promote inclusive and impactful adaptation interventions.
- Capacity Building: Contribute to workshops and training, sharing your knowledge with peers.
- Policy Expertise: Lead on key ICA themes like just transition, gender equity, and disability inclusion.
Coordination and Programme Management:
- Programme Alignment: Ensure ICA activities are in sync with C40's global approaches.
- Workplan Development: Create annual plans, track progress, and document program impact.
- Mainstreaming ICA Principles: Collaborate with internal teams to integrate ICA across program workstreams.
- Pilot Initiatives: Identify and support initiatives that enhance inclusive city governance and community collaboration.
- Knowledge Sharing: Capture lessons learned and promote cross-city collaboration within C40 networks.
Engaging Stakeholders and Building Partnerships:
- Strategic Partnerships: Build relationships with city governments, civil society, and private sector actors.
- Advancing Agendas: Convene diverse stakeholders to drive inclusive climate adaptation.
- Mayoral Support: Assist mayors in their leadership on just transition and climate justice.
- Global Engagement: Actively participate in regional and global forums to share best practices.
Supporting C40's Organizational Goals:
- Reporting and Engagement: Assist the ICA Deputy Director with reporting and donor relations.
- Strategic Contributions: Contribute to C40's organizational strategy and business plan.
- Equitable Action: Undertake additional duties to promote equitable urban climate action.
Are You the Ideal Candidate?
- Experience: Proven track record working with African municipal governments on climate initiatives.
- Understanding: Strong grasp of African climate contexts and debates on equity.
- Technical to Policy: Ability to translate technical climate data into policy decisions.
- Inclusive Engagement: Expertise in participatory stakeholder engagement.
- Skills: Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Collaboration: Ability to work independently and collaborate across diverse teams.
- Language: Fluency in English and the relevant local language.
- Legal Status: Legal right to work in Kenya with occasional travel.

- Salary: KSH 6,302,899 gross per annum (Grade 3, spot salary model)
