A shocking development has unfolded in the Philippines, where a key figure in a flood control scandal has been apprehended. This story is a real eye-opener, and it's about to get even more intriguing.
The Arrest at NAIA: A DPWH Engineer's Downfall
On November 26, 2025, an engineer from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) found themselves in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) announced the arrest of Montrexis Tamayo, an officer-in-charge of the Planning and Design Division in Mimaropa (4B), at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Tamayo's arrest was a swift and precise operation. As his flight touched down, the arresting team approached him, using an identification card to confirm his identity. They informed him of the warrants against him, and the arrest was carried out smoothly.
But here's where it gets controversial: Tamayo was reportedly in Jordan when the arrest warrants were issued. These warrants targeted former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co and a group of officials from Sunwest Construction and the DPWH, accused of graft and malversation. Major General Robert Alexander Morico II, the CIDG director, confirmed that Tamayo had been brought to the Sandiganbayan for further legal proceedings.
The arrest of Tamayo is a significant development in the flood control mess. It brings the total number of accused individuals in government custody to nine. All female accused will be detained at Camp Karingal in Quezon City, while a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Payatas, also in Quezon City, will house the male accused.
And this is the part most people miss: Tamayo's arrest is just one piece of a larger puzzle. The CIDG recently handed over 95 boxes of case files and documents to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI). These files relate to 28 alleged ghost flood control projects across seven regions, including Ilocos, Central Luzon, and the National Capital Region. The ICI is investigating these projects under Executive Order 94.
This story raises important questions: How did these alleged anomalies occur? What impact did they have on the affected regions? And most importantly, will justice be served? We encourage you to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments. This case is a reminder that corruption knows no borders, and it's up to us to hold those in power accountable.
