After a rollercoaster season, the Colorado Rockies are placing their faith in Warren Schaeffer, naming him their full-time manager for the upcoming 2026 season. This decision comes after Schaeffer stepped in as interim manager during a significant portion of the 2025 season.
Schaeffer's promotion follows the departure of Bud Black, who had managed the Rockies since 2017. Black's exit occurred in early May, paving the way for Schaeffer to take the reins. Under Schaeffer's leadership, the team faced a challenging period, finishing with a record of 36-86. But now, Schaeffer has a fresh start as he heads into the 2026 season.
"We're confident Warren is the right person to lead our club moving forward," stated Paul DePodesta, the Rockies' president of baseball operations. "He has established strong relationships with our players, understands the culture of this franchise and embodies the energy and work ethic we want on and off the field."
Schaeffer's roots with the Rockies run deep. The 40-year-old spent six seasons playing in the Rockies’ Minor League system and then dedicated 10 seasons to coaching and managing in the Minors. He then joined the Rockies' major league coaching staff as a third-base and infield coach for the 2023 season.
Schaeffer expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm, saying, "I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this team. My focus remains on continuing to build a strong, unified culture based on accountability, hard work, and trust. We have a group of guys who care deeply about competing the right way, and my goal is to keep strengthening those relationships while leading a team that our fans can embrace and be proud of."
