SCAD freshman Levente Mozsarik broke the NAIA National Record in the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday evening in Ocala, Florida, setting the stage for the Sun Conference Championships. He claimed the title in 19.42, surpassing the previous record of 19.47 set by Keiser's Noel De Geus at last year's national championship meet. De Geus finished second in the same race on Thursday, clocking in at 20.13.
Mozsarik, a native of Hungary, is a 19-year-old newcomer to American collegiate swimming. The NAIA swimming scene is increasingly dominated by international swimmers. Only one A-finalist in the men's 50-free on Thursday was an American (5th place Caedmon Peterson from SCAD in 20.91), and only two B-finalists (Jake Litchfield and Jackson Voelkel, both from SCAD) were American.
Mozsarik is already a national-level performer in Hungary, having represented his country at the 2024 European Junior Championships. He finished 27th in the 50-free and 33rd in the 100-free. His long-course bests in the 50 and 100-free are 23.02 and 50.88, respectively. In 2025, his 50-free time ranked him 10th among all Hungarians and 2nd among those born in 2006 or later, while his 100-free time ranked him 18th among all Hungarians.
The St. Thomas men took the lead after Day 1 of the meet, followed by defending NAIA Champions Keiser University. SCAD currently sits in 3rd place.
On the women's side, SCAD freshmen made waves with a 4:57.29 in the 500-free, which shaved off two-and-a-half seconds from the old Meet Record set last year. Jette Haedicke set a new Meet Record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.24. Gerl, Haedicke, and Mozsarik are all freshmen for SCAD.
The SCAD women also broke a Meet Record in the 200 medley relay (1:41.79), while Keiser's women claimed one in the 800-free relay (7:27.15). Keiser's record broke more than seven seconds off the old Meet Record set by a different Keiser relay in 2023, with Rachel Bradley as the lone holdover.
On the men's side, Keiser's Isaiah Aleksenko won the 200 IM in 1:47.62, knocking off more than a second from the old Meet Record set by SCAD's Kevin Kell last year (1:47.51).
The SCAD men secured the 800-free relay record in 6:36.28. Keiser's relay was initially under the old record but was disqualified due to an early exchange from their best split by Isaiah Aleksenko (1:36.08).
Keiser won the 200 medley relay in 1:26.47, shaving off 1.4 seconds from the team's own Meet Record from last year.
